Raleigh is a listed longhouse, dating from the 15th century. Formerly a farmhouse, it is surrounded by 5.5 acres of gardens, meadows and small woodlands. Although it contains most modern conveniences, it has lost none of its original charm: furnished with traditional furniture, it is very cosy and comfortable.

SITUATION In a quiet valley by the upper Torridge river, away from the bustle of the coast, situated mid-way between Bude and Bideford, a distance of approximately 12 miles. The area is surrounded by the most magnificent coast-line and the quiet, unspoilt, rolling countryside of north-west Devon.

THINGS TO DO There is something for everyone - choose from beaches with sand and surf, windsurfing, sailing and fishing at the local reservoir, walking the coastal path and cycling the Tarka trail. There are gardens to visit, old houses to wander around and Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor to trek over. The Eden Project is about one and a half hours drive. Nearby are themed adventure parks for children, swimming pools and horse-riding. Bude, Holsworthy and Bideford all have sk8parks and golf-courses. Bradworthy village is 3 miles with all facilities and there are several good pubs within 10 mins drive.

ACCOMMODATION There is a warm and welcoming kitchen with Aga, electric ovens, gas and electric hobs, double sink, microwave, fridge and seating at farmhouse table for 6 - 8. A utility-room has washing machine, dryer, sink, freezer and wc. Stepping up from the kitchen to the dining room takes you back to past times - there are beams, oak panelling and the inglenook with open fire. A dresser, settle, table to seat ten and a rug on the floor complete the picture. Two more steps take you into the sitting room - a comfortable room with sofas, TV, video, DVD player, CD player, bookcases and, in another fireplace, a wood burner. There are french doors and steps leading out into the gardens.

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms: 1 very large double room, 1 double, 1 with bunk beds and a small galleried room with a 3/4 bed. The large family bathroom has sink, bidet, wc and bath with hand-held shower.
